- The U-tube manometer, which is made of chrome-nickel metal with a fixed base and is extremely durable, has a simple structure, durability, economical, long life, the values on the scale are clear and easily readable, the measurement is reliable, it does not require any power supply and does not consume energy. It is widely used in industrial production and various scientific research processes for reasons such as.
- In pressure measurement, positive pressure, pressure difference and negative pressure are measured. When using water, the measurement range is -98kPa – +9.8kPa. This measuring range is very suitable for measuring low and micro pressure gases.

- The manometer works based on hydrostatic principles at a certain height, and correct use of the product will affect the precision of your measurement.
- Although the U-shaped glass tube looks simple, errors may occur if the application is not done correctly or the tool is not used correctly. Since the inner diameter of the two tubes of the manometer may not be exactly equal, the values on the scale may be read incorrectly.
- During use, the u-tube manometer should be held vertically, the liquid level in both pipes should be read at the same time, the visibility level and the liquid level should be equal, the reading should be made tangent to the top of the surface curve of the liquid.
- Inject the liquid with which you will work (mercury or pure water) into the glass tube up to half the scale. Connect the gas interface to be tested with a soft rubber hose to one or both ends of the U-shaped glass pipe.
- The reading error is approximately 1mm, and the second reading is 2mm.
- Measurement accuracy in a U-tube manometer depends on the measurement range, the size of the substance being measured and the choice of fluid used in the study. Once the fluid to be studied is decided, the larger the measuring range, the greater the measured pressure and the higher the measurement accuracy. For example, when water is used in the measurement, if the measurement is 5kPa, the accuracy rate will be ±0.5%, if the measurement is 2.5kPa, the accuracy rate will be 1%, and if the measurement is 0.5kPa, the accuracy rate will be ±5%.
- In order to increase the accuracy and sensitivity of the measurement, a low density liquid should be worked at a certain height.
- During use, the value in only one pipe should not be taken into account; the liquid level in both pipes should be read at the same time. The importance of reading the scales of both pipes simultaneously can be explained with the following example. For example, let’s say a U-tube manometer with a value of 1OkPa is used in a single measurement. When there is no pressure, the surfaces of the two liquids are measured at 5000Pa. When any pressure is applied, the liquid level above will be 7800Pa, the liquid level below will be 3000Pa, the correct pressure degree will be 7800—3000=4800Pa. If 2 readings are made from a single pipe and the reading of the liquid surface is considered standard, the pressure value will be (7800Pa-5000Pa)×2=5600Pa, the error will be 4000Pa-4800Pa = 800Pa. As can be seen, the u-tube manometer measures the pressure value. When the pressure value is 4800Pa, if a single pipe is read twice, an error of 800Pa occurs. The measured pressure changes and the error will also change if different u-tube manometers are used.
- When measuring pressure with a U-tube manometer, especially when it detects low pressure and is used as a micro-pressure measurement tool, the density of the liquid to be studied and the U-tube manometer must be selected correctly.
- The values on the scale should be read carefully, repeatedly. Thus, the error rate in measurements can be reduced and the accuracy level can be increased.
